There are a few important things that you need to be aware of with your insurance so take another look, or better yet, get one of our team to chat it through with you!<\/p>\n

Faulty workmanship<\/strong>
\nSo you probably won\u2019t want to think about this one because you\u2019d like to think the work you\u2019re doing is up to scratch. But things happen and mistakes get made, so it\u2019s important to make sure you\u2019re covered if things go pear-shaped. If you do end up with a faulty workmanship problem, this isn\u2019t typically covered by your run-of-the-mill liability policy, so make sure that you get it included in there ASAP!<\/p>\n

Excesses<\/strong>
\nExcesses aren\u2019t quite as black and white as you might think – the amount of your excess can depend on a few things, including what kind of tradie you are and what kind of work you do. If you\u2019re working in a role where there\u2019s likely to be more damage caused than other roles, your excess might be higher. If you don\u2019t know what yours is, or you want to look into it further, grab your policy and get an expert to help you out.<\/p>\n

Subbies<\/strong>
\nThis is one we\u2019ve mentioned before because it can get confusing – you need to make sure that your subcontractors have their own public liability insurance or they\u2019re covered under your policy if you\u2019re the main contractor. Your subbies should really have their own cover, and if there\u2019s nothing in place to protect you both, don\u2019t let them on site!<\/p>\n

Vehicles<\/strong>
\nIt’s a good idea to check out how your wheels are covered. If you\u2019ve got your own private vehicle insurance and you\u2019re using it for work, you might not be covered if anything happens because it\u2019s not meant to be driven for commercial use. You might also have issues if you carry your tools in your private vehicle even though you\u2019re just driving it to and from work – any claim you make if they get stolen might not be approved because it\u2019s technically work-related.<\/p>\n
