6 health and wellness tips for tradies

Although many of you will be back at Level 2, that doesn’t mean that you’re not still dealing with the mental effects of lockdown. It’s not an easy time for anyone so we’ve put together a few helpful tips to help you focus on your overall health and wellness – some you might already know, but some might be new so give them a go!

1. Take regular breaks

Whether you’re working as normal on site or still at home in lockdown, taking breaks often is important. It gives your mind a chance to reset and it restores your energy levels. Get some fresh air where you can to avoid any wall-hitting later in the day.

2. Fuel up

It’s important to fuel your body with the right food and drink (this one’s not so bad at Level 4 because there’s no takeaways anyway!). Make sure you’re drinking at least 1-2 litres of water during the day, and taking proper lunch breaks to enjoy your food.

3. Stretch it out

As you’ve got a pretty physical occupation, it’s important to keep your muscles flexible and relaxed. The tighter they are, the more likely you are to be injured so be sure to do some quick stretches every day before and after all the heavy lifting to stay in top shape.

4. Get 8 hours a night

You’re not going to be any use to anyone if you’re tired and moody. You should be getting 8 hours of sleep every night to help your body recover from the day’s work. It’s easy to lie in bed watching YouTube videos on your phone, but that’s not sleep!

5. Rest your mind

Meditation and mindfulness might seem a bit weird, but it’s literally just taking time to rest your mind – just like your body needs rest, so does your mind. All it takes is for you to sit somewhere with your eyes closed and just focus on your breathing. It’ll feel stupid at first, but you’ll get the hang of it!

6. Keep learning

If you’re bored and doing the same thing over and over, your mind is going to get lazy and you’re going to feel rubbish. Try to learn something new everyday, even if it’s just watching a documentary on something you find interesting, or listening to a random podcast.
